Tiger Woods Foundation scores with digital report
Highlighting educational support for students in need, the Foundation breaks new ground with a compelling online report.
The Tiger Woods Foundation
aims to break the cycle of poverty with college-access opportunities for low-income students. Its 2013 annual report was designed to break out of the cycle of traditional print reports with a digital, interactive model that offered a longer lifespan, richer content, and increased marketing potential. It succeeded on many levels—including winning first place for Best Annual Report in Ragan’s 2014 PR Daily Awards.
The report opens with a quote from Nelson Mandela: “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” It offers figures and facts: Every day, 3,312 students drop out of high school; by 2018, the U.S. will need 8.6 million people to fill the growing rise of jobs in science, technology, engineering, and math.
But then the report concentrates on the most important people: the students themselves who studied at the Tiger Woods Learning Center and received support from the Earl Woods Scholarship Program. Viewers of the report can click on thumbnail images to learn more about some of the Earl Woods Scholars, or scroll down to read a profile of a typical example of what the Foundation can do for young people at risk of slipping through the cracks.
Then there’s a series of tabs leading to information on the Foundation’s fundraising initiatives, efforts that include Facebook, a mobile app for smartphones and tablets, and an event called Tiger Jam that featured a VIP music concert and the opportunity to play a round of golf with Tiger Woods himself.
It’s an information-packed, immersive experience that’s been viewed by more than 150,000 people, a 4,000 percent increase over the previous year’s print report.
