Here are some tips to get your writing flow going.

1. Get away from everyone. I’ve noticed the only way I can get writing done is if I’m alone in my house or somehow separate myself from anything that distracts me. 2. Play instrumental music. I’ve found that songs with words often distract me. I generally play instrumental jazz, and it gets me into a good writing rhythm. (Editor’s note: More thoughts on editing/writing music can be found here.)

3. Gather your research. Before getting to the grit, I like to gather pockets of research and ideas for the piece.
