Infographic: How to identify a boss from hell

By Kristin Piombino | Posted: March 20, 2012
Bosses come in all shapes and sizes.

Some are motivating, some are inspiring, and others are kind. You're lucky if that describes your boss, because others aren't so fortunate.

If you work for a boss who yells, dictates unreasonable demands, or lists fuzzy expectations for your job, you probably work for one of       the worst.

An infographic from BecomeCareer.com highlights the characteristics of a horrible boss, and the toll he or she can have on innocent employees.

Employees with bosses who are incompetent, inconsiderate and uncommunicative are 60 percent more likely to suffer a heart attack or other life-threatening cardiac condition.

To spot a bad boss before you accept a job offer, look for these signs during the interview:

  • He constantly checks his email or looks at his phone.
  • He can't give a straight answer about why your predecessor left.
  • He uses "I" to talk about company success, and "you" to talk about failures.
  • He's concerned about your hobbies and life outside of work.
