10 amazing tweets from this week’s brain surgery on Twitter

By Michael Sebastian | Posted: May 10, 2012
Houston’s Memorial Hermann Medical Center live tweeted a brain surgery on Wednesday.

The healthcare facility isn’t the first to perform the social media feat, but it did grab headlines and Twitter impressions on Wednesday for the effort.

Surgeons removed a benign tumor from a 21-year-old. The tumor was discovered about a month ago after the patient experienced a seizure.

The Twittercast of the surgery started at 7:30 am CST. The first incision occurred around 9 am CST. Live tweeting took place for roughly four hours, according to Memorial Hermann.

Here are 10 tweets from the surgery thus far (STOP reading if you’re feeling squeamish):

In February, Memorial Hermann live tweeted an open heart surgery.

Aurora Health Care won a Ragan Communications award for best use of Twitter for its live tweeting last year of epilepsy resection surgery.
