There’s a ton of grey area when it comes to the phrase, “There’s no such thing as bad publicity”—especially in the era of social media. There are has some twists and turns to it. However, it still may be true in Hollywood.
E! News recently debunked a rumor that the movie “Gotti: Three Generations” had been shelved due to recent allegations against its star, John Travolta.
The film’s executive producer denied the rumor, telling E! he would never walk away from a movie for bad PR reasons:
"We are moving full steam ahead and John Travolta is still playing Gotti,” Marc Flore said. “John has been around quite a while … bad PR means good box office. I'm not too worried about it to be quite honest about it."
So there you have it: Bad PR = good box office. Anyone want to try pitching that equation in a planning meeting?
