Grocery chain under fire for racist job ad

By Kevin Allen | Posted: August 29, 2012
Australian supermarket chain Coles recently posted a classified ad calling for experienced cleaning staff. That ad would have been completely innocuous were it not for the blatant racism attached.

From Australian site ABC.net:

“[The job ad] included a list of requirements—that the applicant must have their own transport and license, and importantly, it says the store requires ‘no Indians or Asians... please.’”

The grocer said a subcontractor who is no longer associated with them placed the ad without its knowledge.

Naturally, this doesn’t appease such officials as Tasmania’s anti-discrimination commissioner. She’s calling for an apology from the grocery chain and the website that published the ad, Gumtree.
