New service enables brands to hold Pinterest contests

By Kevin Allen | Posted: October 19, 2012
Pinfluencer, previously touted for its Pinterest analytics offerings, is expanding its capabilities to offer contests and sweepstakes on the popular social network.

Adweek reports that Pinfluencer is launching Pinterest Promotions today, which will serve as a platform for running contests and integrating them through Facebook.

Discount retailer Gilt is among the first brands to try with its Gilt Wedding Style promotion. The contest requires its entrants to repin a Gilt-offered bridal gown and use the dress as inspiration to make a board around their dream wedding.

According to Adweek, the service will drive Facebook users to “like” brands on Pinterest while providing useful analytics for the companies:

“In addition to standard stats like total number of pins, repins, clicks and page views, marketers can track revenue from purchases that stemmed from a contest. Pinfluencer can also calculate the total potential reach of contest-related pins and the influencer scores of participating users.

Brands like eBay and Sephora will follow Gilt in using the service for their own promotions.

Startup Pinfluencer announced in July that it had picked up $1.4 million in seed funding from investors.
