A majority of people in a new survey rank marketing and advertising among the least valuable professions.
The
survey by Adobe and Edelman Berland found that teachers, scientists, bankers, and politicians are the most valuable jobs. The least valuable are marketing/advertising, actor, and dancer.
But the news gets even worse for those in the public relations industry.
According to a report in Advertising Age:
“There was only one profession that ranked lower in the survey, and even that one is just a part of the marketing ecosystem: PR professionals. Only 11 percent said PR is a valuable job.
Ad Age further noted that even people in the industry don’t have much respect for themselves:
“Meanwhile, the results weren't much better among marketers; only 35 percent of people who were marketers themselves deemed it a valuable profession in responding to the survey.”
The study included 1,000 people in the U.S., Japan, and China.
