Twitter unveils photo-sharing tool similar to Instagram

By Michael Sebastian | Posted: December 11, 2012
Oh, it’s on—the photo-filter wars, that is.

One week after Facebook-owned Instagram obscured the way in which its photos display in tweets, Twitter has unveiled a photo-sharing tool similar to that of Instagram, in which users can edit pictures, add a filter, and share them in tweets.

The new feature, which is powered by the photo-editing app Aviary, is available in the latest versions of Twitter for iPhone and Android. This one-minute video from Twitter headquarters shows how to use it:

Last week, Twitter users noticed that photos edited through Instagram weren’t appearing properly in tweets. Instagram founder Kevin Systrom confirmed that the glitch was intentional, adding that soon images from the image-sharing app will not be visible at all on Twitter.

The press has dubbed it the photo-filter war.

For its part, Instagram debuted a new filter this week (called Willow), as well as other new features, which are currently available on Apple gadgets.
