The Internet’s obsession with sharks knows no bounds.

Of course, there’s a reason every single human-shark encounter makes national news. We’re fascinated, terrified and altogether intrigued by these enigmatic fish.
And then, well, there’s this:
published a story about this photograph of a man “fighting” his way out of a shark after John Burns and Ross Stevenson of the Australian radio show 3AM Breakfast dubbed it the unofficial “photo of the year
Although the photo is staged, the story certainly feeds our unrivaled fixation with these seemingly mysterious beasts of the water.

The station did catch some flak in the comments from visitors who found the image disgusting or promoted killing sharks, many species of which are considered vulnerable or endangered.
“Why is this being celebrated!? It's a disgusting act of disrespect and cruelty!” wrote one commenter.
