Prepare yourself: Oct. 22 is 'Snark Free Day'

We here at PR Daily are pretty big fans of snark. It’s kind of our job.

PRConsultants Group, a nationwide group of public relations consultants (in case the name didn’t give you a clue, Sherlock) doesn’t feel that way. It’s sponsoring a one-day moratorium on snark, on Oct. 22.

Here’s a statement about the initiative from Toni Antonetti, a director of the group:
Instead of taking the cheap shot, take the high road. People have been emboldened by the anonymity and immediacy of online commenting. On Oct. 22, we’re asking others to commit to taking just a moment before speaking, hitting send or posting to think about the effect our words have on those who receive them. Be snark-free for one day.
The group has created a video about a character named “Jonathan Snark,” a guy who was so snarky that it made him a “world-class jerk.”

He has a Twitter account. The group has started a #snarkfreeday hashtag, too.

Can you go a full day without being snarky? It’ll be pretty tough here at PR Daily Central. Maybe we’ll just close down for the day.
