Sony attempts to take control of hacking story

Sony representatives appeared on CNN and ‘Meet the Press’ to say that the company will release the movie ‘The Interview,’ but it’s not clear how. (Update)

UPDATE: Sony has announced that it will release “The Interview” after all, but only in a few theaters (around 100) and on video-on-demand services. CEO Michael Lynton said in a statement:

We have never given up on releasing The Interview and we’re excited our movie will be in a number of theaters on Christmas Day. At the same time, we are continuing our efforts to secure more platforms and more theaters so that this movie reaches the largest possible audience.

— Sony Pictures Entertainment’s announcement that it wouldn’t release the movie “The Interview” after hackers stole a massive cache of data and threatened theatergoers with a 9/11-style attack proved rather unpopular.
