Facebook reports massive growth in video posts

Marketers, take note: The social media platform’s increase in visual viewing makes it a contender against YouTube.

Globally, Facebook video posts have increased 75 percent worldwide over the last year, the company announced Wednesday. U.S. users are leading the increase with 94 percent more videos posted.

Facebook reported an average of 1 billion video posts each day since June 2014, with 76 percent of users saying the videos they watch are mainly on Facebook. Each year, the amount of video from both individuals and brands in a user’s news feed increases by a factor of 3.6.

The news not only means auto-play videos of dancing cats will continue, but brand managers should pay even more attention to visual content.

Fidji Simo, Facebook’s director of product, said the social media platform would alter the website’s design so marketers can monitor campaigns and buy video ads more easily.
