Social media users upbeat about Memorial Day travel, spending

Memorial Day weekend in the U.S. has begun, and if social media is any indication—and it often is—people are traveling and spending money with greater enthusiasm than last year.

According to an IBM analysis of social media sentiment, people are discussing travel this weekend more than they were last year. They’re also talking more positively about spending money this holiday compared with last.

The IBM Social Sentiment Index analyzes public opinion based on conversations on Twitter, blogs, message boards, and social media.

The Big Blue put together this handy infographic to show off the findings:
