Slurpee-style mashed potatoes dispenser goes viral

By Alan Pearcy | Posted: July 17, 2012
Few eats feed the requirements of home-style comfort food quite like mashed potatoes. Smothered in well-larded gravy, this taste bud (and soul) tantalizer is in a class all to itself, like that of baked mac ‘n cheese and mom’s meatloaf.

But what are we to do when the urge for heavy starches and fats strikes when we’re on the go and away from mom’s kitchen? Certainly not go without said delight—oh, no, not if 7-Eleven has anything to say about it, which at the moment isn’t much.

Gothamist reports that for years, 7-Eleven locations in Singapore have treated their patrons to a Slurpee-style vending machine that dispenses mashed potatoes and gravy. A video of the machine went viral this morning and ever since, 7-Eleven has been responding to questions about the delectable dispenser.

Unfortunately, reps for the company aren’t saying if it will arrive stateside, telling Gothamist: “It may be just a Singapore thing, but we're looking into it.”

When you do, can you also verify whether there’s a button for a lumpy option?
