If you work in public relations or a related field, there’s a certain set of hardships you encounter. Tumblr has helped show us that we are not alone. Here’s a list of a few of our favorite PR and marketing-related Tumblrs:
99 Problems But A Pitch Ain’t One.
Never mind the clever name of this Tumblr, what you’ll find here is a steady diet of “first world problems of PR pros.” Translated, this means GIFs and captions that celebrate the trials and tribulations of being a PR pro. There’s also a “Jargon Jar Phrase of the Day,” which includes such nails-on-a-chalkboard phrases as “circle back,” “skim it down,” “not in our wheelhouse,” and “circle the wagons.”
It’s very similar in its form and function to our next Tumblr.
What Should We Call Social Media.
GIFs galore capture how people feel during such scenarios as:
• When I end up working on vacation because people have community management questions about my client. (GIF of a sobbing Alice in Wonderland)
• When Facebook announced a native “schedule post” option for page admins. (cue GIF of dancing Carlton from “Fresh Prince”)
As its tagline suggests, “If you work in social media, this is for you.”
If you’ve ever read a PR story and thought, “It’s people like this who give our profession a bad name,” then chances are it ended up on the Annoying PR Tumblr. It’s a great resource for lessons on what not
to do as a communications professional. As a complete coincidence, its most recent offering is from PR Daily
— a truly astounding PR story if ever there was one
Oscar PR Girl.
It's billed as: “PR girl for Oscar de la Renta reporting from inside one of the world's most prestigious fashion houses.” This is a fantastic use of Tumblr that gives great behind-the-scenes coverage of what she sees on a daily basis. It goes from the vaguely interesting (Polaroids of co-workers working) to the highly engaging, like this vibrant photo
that sparked nearly 1,600 notes.
The PR Closet.
If you’re looking to break into fashion/beauty public relations, this Tumblr is perfect for you. The PR Closet author puts her 12 years of experience to good use, answering a steady stream of reader questions.
