‘Today’ slammed for airing Kardashian interview over 9/11 remembrance [UPDATED]

Twitter is alight with criticism for the network, which offered this explanation (in so many words): Hey, we already aired 9/11 segments. UPDATE: The NBC News chief apologized to affiliates for not cutting away to the 9/11 observance.

NBC is experiencing another case of the #FAILS.

On Tuesday morning, Twitter lit up with criticism for NBC when the “Today” show aired an interview with Kris Jenner—the mother of Kim, Kloe, and Kourtney Kardashians—instead of the 9/11 moment of silence.

At 8:46 a.m. ET, families of 9/11 victims, as well as members of the New York Police and Fire departments and the Port Authority Police, gathered at Ground Zero. President Obama and the First Lady also took part from the White House.

ABC’s “Good Morning, America” and CBS’s “This Morning” both cut to the event; the “Today” stuck with its Kardashian interview. TV Newser pointed out that NBC’s New York affiliate did cut away to the observance.

Initially, the NBC and “Today” show Twitter accounts did not chime in; however, according to the Associated Press:
