3 laws of social media marketing you shouldn’t break

By Matthew Royse | Posted: February 20, 2011
Harnessing the power of content and social media marketing can help elevate your audience and customer base in a dramatic way, Susan Gunelis, CEO of marketing firm KeySplash Creative Inc., wrote in Entrepreneur.

But you have to make sure you understand the fundamentals of social media marketing. For instance, what are the laws you need to obey when it comes to social media marketing? Gunelis explained 10 of the laws; here are three that caught my attention:

  • The law of listening. Learn what is important to your audience and add value to their lives.
  • The law of patience. Social media marketing doesn’t happen overnight. It is a long-term commitment.
  • The law of reciprocity. You can’t expect others to share your content if you are not doing the same for them.
