Buzzwords: 10 that shouldn’t be on your website

By Jackson Wightman | Posted: April 13, 2011
Is your website's copy full of nonsense and jargon?

In a post for BNet, business author Jeff Haden put together a list of 10 words and phrases that should never appear on your site.

Among the phrases Haden suggests avoiding:

“‘Unique blend of…’ If you’re KFC, your recipe may be a unique blend of herbs and spices. Otherwise, someone, somewhere, is also doing what you do. You may do it a little better, but you aren’t unique. Describe why you’re better.”

The other nine phrases Haden mentions are common offenders on not only websites but also in press releases and résumés. Among them:

• Innovative
• Service provider
• Proven track record
• Dynamic
• Results oriented

See Haden’s complete list, plus explanations, here.

How many of these words and phrases he mentions appear on yours website, press releases, or résumé?
