The Dutch rank No. 1 in the world for Twitter and LinkedIn penetration

By | Posted: April 28, 2011
Social networking in The Netherlands continues to grow at a rapid pace, according to a new comScore study on social networking in that country.

The study found that the Dutch have an exceptionally high representation among social networking sites like Twitter and LinkedIn.

“The Netherlands is in many ways a nexus of global social networking behavior,” said Mike Read, senior vice president and managing director of comScore Europe.

The nation ranks No. 1 among all countries in Internet penetration for Twitter and LinkedIn, and more than one in four Dutch Internet users visit these sites during the course of the month, the study found.

Read noted that the Netherlands is among the few remaining markets in which a local social networking site—Hyves—leads Facebook in popularity.

“But that lead is becoming increasingly tenuous,” he added.

The top 10 countries in Linkedin penetration are either English-speaking or in Western Europe; the top countries for Twitter touch virtually every corner of the globe.
