Samsung U.K. introduces ‘extreme unboxing’

By Alan Pearcy | Posted: May 3, 2011

Typically, my biggest concern with a new tech gadget is making sure it works, that is, if I can figure out how to turn the damn thing on.

Add a 1,000-meter freefall from a plane to the mix—yeah, things just got extreme.

That’s the idea for Samsung U.K. and its latest campaign for its Galaxy S II that goes beyond thinking outside the box. It’s extreme “unboxing.”

According to Spreading Jam, the company asked six different bloggers to recreate the online trend of unboxing videos—when a person records him or herself opening a box and uploads it the Web. The practice has been called “geek porn.”

Thing is these bloggers had to unbox their cameras while stunt-flying, mountain climbing, speedboating, or, as you can see in the video above, jumping out of a plane.

You can watch the rest of the videos on the Samsung U.K.’s YouTube channel.
