Survey: Walmart and Sam’s Club worst in customer service

The results of a Consumer Reports survey show that the state of customer service in the U.S. is ‘abominable,’ led, in part, by Walmart. Go figure.

A Consumer Reports survey reveals that 64 percent of consumers have walked out of stores because of poor assistance, and 67 percent have hung up on a customer service call before their problems were addressed.

Big box stores like Walmart and Sam’s Club took a beating in the report, ranked as having the worst customer service in buying small appliances, electronics, mobile phones, and groceries. They were also found to have the least-knowledgeable staff when it comes to buying computers.

The survey noted that 71 percent of respondents characterized themselves as “tremendously annoyed” when they couldn’t reach a person on the phone. Yet only 16 percent of respondents said they would prefer to resolve an issue face to face.
