Study: Surfing the Web at work makes you significantly more productive

By Michael Sebastian | Posted: August 23, 2011
Next time you feel bad about browsing ShopBop.com or checking scores on ESPN.com during business hours, consider the results of a new study: Web browsing makes you more productive.

According to the study “Impact of Cyberloafing on Psychological Engagement,” by researchers at the National University of Singapore, surfing the Web refreshes tired workers and enhances their productivity. It’s more refreshing than making personal calls, texting, emailing, or just working through the exhaustion.

“The researchers found that the Web-surfers were significantly more productive and effective at the tasks … and reported lower levels of mental exhaustion, boredom and higher levels of engagement,” reports The Wall Street Journal.
