In the wee hours of Monday morning, a Chicago Transit Authority Blue Line train coming into the station at O’Hare International Airport slammed through a stop and jumped onto the platform, injuring more than 30 people, according to the Chicago Tribune
One Twitter user said images of the derailment looked like something out of a movie. They are pretty stunning.
CTA’s Twitter account reported the derailment almost immediately.
The account periodically tweeted about the derailment throughout the morning, but it was all immediate information for riders rather than an explanation of the derailment.
Several people responded to those tweets with questions as to how this could have happened.
CTA hasn’t replied. An alert posted to the agency’s website
has a similar just-the-facts approach.
CTA spokesman Brian Steele told the Tribune
that the agency is investigating the cause of the accident, as is the National Transportation Safety Board.
“We will be looking at everything — equipment, signals, the human factor, any extenuating circumstances,” he said.
Steele did tell the paper that the train was going faster than it normally would have been going when coming into the station.
