Apparently, all of those pop songs about taking vacations (thank you, Go-Gos, Beach Boys, et. al.) are just lip service. Americans don’t seem to value vacation in practice as much as they do in theory.

More than half of Americans who had 14 vacation days in 2011 had unused time. Most of those left two days of vacation time unused. And yet 52 percent of Americans would forego office-related events for five more vacation days, while 23 percent would swap five percent of their salary. Go figure.
