And he’s emerged from the shadows.
Scott Bartosiewicz is the 28-year-old social media marketer who mistakenly dropped an F-bomb in a tweet from Chrysler’s official Twitter account last week. In the aftermath, his employer, New Media Strategies, Chrysler’s former social media agency, fired him. Chrysler dropped NMS as its social media agency.
On Thursday, Bartosiewicz spoke with the Detroit media.
He explained why he sent the tweet—he was stuck in traffic on his way to a meeting and wanted to “blow off some steam”—and said he understands why the gaffe cost him his job.
“This brought a large amount of visibility to [Chrysler’s] brand and to their company that they didn’t want or ask for, and, unfortunately, somebody has to pay for that, and I don’t think they can be blamed for that,” Bartosiewicz told Detroit’s WXYZ. New Media Strategies “acted accordingly in doing what they did.”
He also blamed the errant e-mail on TweetDeck, a platform that enables people to manage multiple Twitter accounts and tweet from them. According to WXYZ, Bartosiewisz said he deleted the Chrysler account from his TweetDeck, but the tweet still went live on his client’s Twitter feed.
His attorney is claiming Bartosiewicz has a case against TweetDeck.
TweetDeck told WXYZ it’s “not familiar with the error” but could look into it further.
The Consumerist blog had some choice words for Bartosiewicz.
“As a social media marketer, he should know that the best thing to do when you're caught in an embarrassing situation is to apologize, accept responsibility, and move on.”
Apparently, he is moving on. Bartosiewicz told WXYZ that he’s received multiple job offers since he got the boot from NMS.
