James Franco: Social media is dead

Sound the alarm. Stop the presses. Ring the death knell. All heed the word of King James: Social media is over.

Actor, writer, and maligned awards show host James Franco told Politico that he’s scaling back his Twitter presence, adding: "Social media is over. Still up there. Going down. You heard it here first.”

Well, you heard it here second.

Franco, who made the comments while attending a benefit for 826DC, a nonprofit that supports young writers, wasn’t all doom-and-gloom. He gave the crowd of aspiring student writers some decent advice:

“If you want to write, make the time. We all have an hour or two a day that can be used for surfing Facebook or writing. No one is going to beg any new writer to write."
