Every weekday, PR Daily associate editor Alan Pearcy highlights the day’s most compelling stories and amusing marginalia on the Web in this, #TheDailySpin.
Perhaps I’m preaching to the choir, but it ain’t easy being beautiful. One Bulgarian fashion magazine is finding that out.
12 Magazine has come under scrutiny for its recent editorial photo spread, shot by photographer Vasil Germanov, titled “
Victim of Beauty,” which depicts female models severely beaten, prompting many to question whether the shoot
glorifies domestic violence.
Think that was tactless? Wait until you see the behavior in
these bizarre press conferences collected by
Mediaite. Two words: Sarah Palin.
Bizarre doesn’t even begin to describe a video tribute—a la Sir Elton John—mourning the
recent cancellation of “CSI: Miami” from the CBS lineup and its biggest star, David Caruso’s sunglasses.
At least the show’s producers won’t have to yield to an agreement by broadcasting’s Big Four—ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC—as well as Spanish language networks Telefutura, Telemundo, and Univision, each of which agreed to
begin using content ratings on streaming episodes of their programs by Dec. 1. The CW has yet to make its final decision.
The more attention that’s paid to streaming television shows, the more likely that online advertisements will become more abundant on the programs. But maybe viewers won’t mind, as long as the ads are as delightfully nostalgic as
this collection of classic cereal commercials.

There was no delight on Monday as “Good Morning America” co-anchor
Robin Roberts tearfully announced her diagnosis and treatment of MDS, a rare disease of the blood and bone marrow.
Apple had its own announcements to make on Monday. At its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2012, the tech giant introduced a number of new products and upgrades.
PluggedIn noted
these 10 things to take away from it.
People can take away any number of lessons from talking with and observing their kids, but when father and filmmaker Daniel Brace
strapped a camera on his 2-year-old daughter Olivia’s head to capture a game of hide-and-seek , the only thing taken away was my heart.
What is left of my heart goes out to Max Page, the star of the hit
2011 Volkswagen Super Bowl ad that featured the young actor dressed as Darth Vader. Now, 7-year-old Max is
scheduled to have open-heart surgery on Wednesday. May the force be with you, Max.
The force was certainly with the Los Angeles Kings, who on Monday night
skated away with 2012 Stanley Cup, a first for the 45-year-old franchise. Congrats.
Maria Sharapova returned to the top of her sport when she left the clay courts of Roland Garros last weekend with the 2012 French Open title (completing her own career Grand Slam) and the No. 1 ranking in women’s tennis. Nike, the tennis star’s proud sponsor,
proclaimed via its social media channels: “THOSE WHO BELONG AT THE TOP FORGET THEIR WAY BACK.”
Looks as though Glenn Beck is still on top. The conservative talk show host has
inked a five-year, $100 million deal with syndicator Premiere Networks to continue his morning radio program.
A deal with retailer Topshop must have proved to good to pass up for Burberry’s former VP of public relations, Justin Cook, who just
landed the role of chief marketing officer for the trendy fashion store.
Several more marketers are making big moves this summer, but in a different manner. From festivals and concerts to amusement parks and campouts, brands such as Jack in the Box, Walmart, and even the Fox sitcom “New Girl” are
taking to the open road to build closer relationships with their fans.
The building of our nation’s future appears to be in jeopardy, again. A Nevada high school
misspelled the word “graduation” on its diplomas where it incorrectly appeared as “graduataion.” Best of luck to you, Class of 2012.
