What do Mila Kunis and my great aunt Wanda have in common?
Well, aside from both having dated Macaulay Culkin …
Actually, according to a new
viral campaign that’s sweeping the nation, they both deserve to die, and they’re not alone.
Posters popping up across the U.S. in cities such as Chicago, Seattle, and New Orleans have decreed that a variety of people need to die, including hipsters, cat lovers, the tattooed, the smug, the genetically privileged, even your crazy old aunts.
The reason? It’s hard to say just yet.
What can be determined so far is that aside from
angering onlookers, the provocative signage appears to be connected to an equally vague website called
NoOneDeservesToDie.org, where the same images are accompanied by this ambiguous message:
“Every year over 160,000 lives are lost to a deadly disease. They didn't ask for it, but many people seem to think they deserved it. This disease doesn't discriminate. It affects almost all of us and it's showing no signs of slowing down. So what is the killer? You'll find out soon enough."
Presuming that a clock—which also appears on the site—is counting down the seconds until the “killer” comes clean, “soon enough” will be Friday morning at 12:00 a.m.
Provided all other scant details, there’s little else we can do now but await the heavy breath of death to fall upon our necks.
Tick, tock.
UPDATE: That was fast. Seems not only has the countdown been called off, but that the culprit behind the provocative campaign has also stepped forward as the Lung Cancer Alliance. The original Website now bares the organization's name, as well as information on the disease and how one can donate to the cause.
