National Pork Board’s new slogan unlikely to make you squeal

By Alan Pearcy | Posted: March 7, 2011
After nearly a quarter-century, the National Pork Board is replacing its iconic slogan—“The Other White Meat”—with (drum roll, please):

“Pork: Be Inspired.”

(Eye roll, please.)

Epiphanies, anyone? Me neither.

So how did the National Pork Board settle on such a torpid slogan? Ceci Snyder, vice president of marketing, told The Wall Street Journal:

“Our research shows that pork's top consumers are looking for more than basic education; they're looking for inspiration. With its great taste and versatility, pork is the ideal catalyst to inspire great meals.”

Brand Channel reports the new campaign rolls out on Monday, but will it inspire consumers to roll into their local butcher shop?

“Not, I,” said the pig.
