Perhaps political favoritism among the press has finally taken its toll on the media. Perhaps shrinking newsrooms have led to lower quality work.
Whatever the case may be, the public has never felt more negative about the press.
Pew Research Center has released its
recent findings on the public’s impression of the national media, and it doesn’t look good.
“Negative opinions about the performance of news organizations now equal or surpass all-time highs on nine of 12 core measures the Pew Research Center has been tracking since 1985,” the study declares.
Here are some of the ugly facts from the report:
• Only 25 percent of respondents think news organizations get the facts straight;
• 66 percent say news stories often are inaccurate;
• 77 percent think that news organizations tend to favor one side;
• 80 percent say news organizations are often influenced by powerful people and organizations.
