Every weekday, PR Daily associate editor Alan Pearcy highlights the day’s most compelling stories and amusing marginalia on the Web in this, #TheDailySpin.
Our crooning “Preezi of the United Steezi,” who has
“slow-jammed” the news and
delighted us with his soulful Al Green rendition, is at it again—sort of—offering us another reason to love Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe.” Even if, technically, he didn’t have anything to do with the
latest cover.
“The Donald” also covered the Carly Rae earworm (sort of), lip-syncing the tune with the 2012 Miss USA contestants. Judges Giuliana Rancic and Andy Cohen joined him.

Speaking of the pageant, one of its
bitter losers participants is causing a stir over fraud allegations against the Miss Universe Organization. Sheena Monnin
resigned from her post as Miss Pennsylvania USA, claiming on Facebook that the contest was rigged and that finalist were preselected.
Sara Lee is resigning, too—her name, that is. The dame and her cheesecakes are splitting the company into two businesses later this month.
The North America division will become Hillshire Brands Co., while the other division—billed as an international coffee and tea company—will take on the name D.E. Master Blenders 1753.
Let’s hope the split is as successful as Taco Bell’s partnership with Doritos.
The Consumerist reports that the home of “Fourthmealers” everywhere sold 100 million Loco Tacos in its first 10 weeks, making it the chain’s most popular launch to date.
In other Taco Bell news, the chain has rolled out a new upscale menu called Cantina Bell (think Chipotle).
Advertising Age has more on the rollout and how marketers hope to popularize the new menu items.
If you’re looking to add popularity to your brand’s online presence,
Open Forum suggests adding more photos to your content. Not only do images capture your audience’s attention, but also help tell your company or client’s story. Find out what kind of images work best, as well as where to find them
here.
Images might pep up your Web content, but what about pepping up your productivity at work? Try naptime.
This infographic from OnlineDegrees.com says a 26-minute nap can improve performance by 34 percent, and even increase alertness by 54 percent.
There’s a 100 percent chance of loving this next story if you despise Nickleback (as anyone with a modicum musical taste should).
Mashable suggests that a new Internet prank going viral, referred too as “
Nickelbacking,” might be the new
Rickroll. Visit

Meanwhile, we’re learning more about the
Emmy campaign controversy from the makers of “Family Guy.” The show’s creator, Seth MacFarlane,
addressed the “Brentwood Jews” mailer that his team sent out, saying, “I put it in the same category as Ricky Gervais at the Golden Globes a few years ago—Hollywood must be able to laugh at itself.”
Zack Morris Mark-Paul Gosselaar is addressing his claim to fame, “Saved by the Bell,” saying that in hindsight, it was “
not a great show.” Bite your tongue, Preppy.
Rush Limbaugh should’ve bitten his tongue in February before
calling law student Sandra Fluke a “slut” when she testified before Congress in support of birth control. Now, the incident has spurred a movement all its own. Susan McMillan Emry has
launched “Rock the Slut Vote,” a site empowering women to take charge of the derogatory term while also encouraging them to register before November’s big election.
