Report: 88 percent of Twitter users follow one brand

By Kevin Allen | Posted: October 4, 2012
Good news for social media managers who can function in 140 characters or fewer. Most Twitter followers follow brands—that is, according to Twitter.

TechCrunch reports that Twitter’s vice president of global brand strategy, Joel Lunenfeld, told a conference this week that “that 88 percent of Twitter users follow at least one brand, and that more than half of users follow six or more brands.”

While Lunenfeld acknowledged there’s plenty of opportunities to engage with fans and other brands for free, the real value is in the paid campaigns, obviously.

But overall, the message is clear—there’s still value for brands in Twitter, and it’s up to them to find out what that is.
