15 percent of people would rather do without sex than without their iPhones

By Ann Tracy Mueller | Posted: June 24, 2012

Gazelle.com, which buys old iPhones, asked 1,000 of its customers a few questions about iPhones and sex.

Guys and gals, watch out. You’ve got some competition—and it’s not another human being. About 15 percent of the respondents said they’d rather go without sex than without their iPhones for a a weekend.

And pity the 4 percent of lovers who have that magic moment interrupted by someone who used the phone during sex.

Lovers should feel relieved though about one thing. Facebook fairs even worse than lovers. Mashable reports that “when asked which device or platform they would not be able to live without, a majority (65 percent) chose iPhone, while only a few (1 percent) report not being able to do without Facebook.”

Here are some other facts from the survey press release:

  • About 40% of those responding want a larger screen on their iPhones.
  • People often get rid of other devices when they get an iPhone, like iPods or mp3 players (70 percent of respondents), cameras (55 percent) and GPS units (40 percent).
  • And, even more disgusting, only 15 percent of those surveyed say they haven’t used their phones while in the bathroom. Do you think it’s really even that high?
