Breaking up with your agency has never been easier

By Alan Pearcy | Posted: April 13, 2012
Neil Sedaka said that breaking up is hard to do. Mike and Ike would agree. And for jaded clients and brands, cutting ties with that unimpressive agency just got easier thanks to BreakUpWithYourAdAgency.com, the brainchild of—get this—an ad agency named Rockit Science. (via Advertising Age)

Meanwhile, one of agency BBDO’s South American offices launched what it bills as the first ever “Twitter commercial” for Smart Argentina.

At Facebook, all the rage is still about the company’s $1 billion purchase of Instagram this week, a deal which is out of character for co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who The New York Times reports had quite the heavy hand in the acquisition.

As for cellular users, we could all do a better job at keeping a hand on our iAndroidBerry devices. According to an infographic from BackgroundCheck.org, $7 million worth of phones are lost around the world each day. Not surprisingly, two-thirds of it occurs between 9 p.m. and 2 a.m.

For those of you on an iPhone that hasn’t been misplaced, Yahoo blog Digital Crave provides 25 tips and tricks for your device—many of which you probably didn’t know, such as how to turn any site into a mobile “app” on your home screen.

Thanks to what I imagine was somebody’s camera phone, the world was introduced this week to “Snackman,” the devourer of Cheddar Pringles and gummy bears, and protector of New York City subways. When dangers calls, just be sure to use his bat mustachioed-symbol.

But who needs the Snackman when you have E! News, which is reporting that although Matt Groening, creator of “The Simpsons,” might have named the show’s hometown after Springfield, Ore., he didn’t set it in the Pacific Northwest state, contrary to reports this week. Those of us from the nation’s other Springfields just breathed a sigh of relief.

Have you taken the poll for the best magazine cover of the year yet? The American of Magazine Editors would breathe a sigh of relief if you did. Voting is currently underway via Amazon.com.

Maybe you’re more of a newspaper person. If that’s the case, then the publications’ digital staff might owe you a debt of gratitude. A new survey found that digital newspaper consumers aren’t just engaging with the content, but with the ads, too.

As for me, I’m about to engage in some weekend debauchery. Hope you do the same.
