5 steps to persuade your boss or client to try a new PR approach

Organizational leaders can be resistant to change, even if the proposed strategy is better than the status quo. Here’s what you can do to gain better reception about your big idea.

You passionately bring new ideas to your clients, partners or senior management, and often you are met with enthusiasm. Sometimes though, you encounter scepticism—which is normal.

People are reluctant to stray from the status quo, especially if it’s working fine. When you want to turn “fine” into “excellent,” here are five tips to get sceptics on your side:

1. Do your homework. We’ve all had that moment: the one where you’re so pumped about a PR strategy you see at a conference that you want to implement it as soon as you return to the office. Unintentionally, you forget how much research it takes to arrive at that final outcome.

Learn what you can about the idea you want to propose. Contact PR pros in your network who may have done it and ask them how they went about it. Look to social media and PR training sites for examples.
