Condé Nast will pay $5.8 million to former interns

The magazine publisher, which put an end to its internship programs last year, has settled a lawsuit claiming interns were underpaid.

A place with the nickname “condescending and nasty” doesn’t exactly sound like an ideal place for an intern to gain experience. Yet, thousands of interns flocked to publisher Condé Nast over the past couple of decades.

As it turns out, it wasn’t a very financially lucrative experience.

Condé Nast has settled a class action lawsuit that will award 7,500 former interns for anywhere from $700 to $1,900 each—a total of $5.8 million.
