staffer gives us a great lesson on verifying tweets
Daniel Victor saw that a New Yorker named Travis tweeted about long lines to vote:
Victor had a couple of options, one of which included blindly embedding the tweet in a story about long lines at polling places. Instead, Victor reached out to Travis, who told him it was a joke. Victor got to save face and tell the joke’s author that the line “wasn’t bad.”

It’s also a great lesson that brands should take with them. As social media managers consider what to aggregate, retweet, and tout, not necessarily everything needs to be verified, per se, but should at least be vetted. There’s a lot of spam and weird stuff out there. There’s a lot of people saying the opposite of what they really mean, too.

Making sure the content that you’re associating with your brand is legit should never be overlooked.
