Red Robin brews up new beer milkshake ahead of Oktoberfest

By Alan Pearcy | Posted: September 13, 2012
Every weekday, PR Daily associate editor Alan Pearcy highlights the day’s most compelling stories and amusing marginalia on the Web in this, #TheDailySpin.

Break out your lederhosen. Oktoberfest is coming early to Red Robin restaurants, thanks to its new Samuel Adams beer milkshake. Ordinarily, I push flip-flop weather to the brink of the season—holding on to every last ounce of Summer Shandy I can consume—but if the onset of fall means downing one of these bad boys, by all means, consider it jacket weather. I wonder whether Red Robin is open to the idea of BYOB—a pumpkin ale milkshake sounds awesome.

Of course, the family-friendly eatery isn’t the only restaurant brewing up something special in the kitchen. Smashburger, T.G.I. Friday’s, Sonic, and Burger King have all attempted to work alcohol into their menus, although proper licensing has proved problematic for Burger King.

Content has long been revered as the king of marketing, but Search Engine Watch’s Guillaume Bouchard suggests this could be one of many white lies that SEO marketers tell themselves.

Meanwhile, single people insist they’re thrilled for their happily married friends—despite remaining bitterly alone. Don’t bother with therapy; try a Tumblr instead, such as #MyFriendsAreMarried.

Sadly, a Tumblr won’t help you deal with those nightmare clients whose accounts you’re assigned to handle. OPEN Forum, however, will.

Now if only Michele Bachmann could get some help. According to the polls, the former candidate for the GOP presidential nomination is growing more in danger of losing her seat in the House, her lead having diminished to a mere two points.

The numbers look much better for Katie Couric. Her self-titled syndicated program premiered to the highest debut talk show ratings of the last decade.

Glenn Beck should be so lucky. The conservative pundit is returning to television in a new deal with Dish Network that will reposition his own online streaming network, TheBlaze TV.

If Beck learned anything during his absence from the tube, it might prove meaningless—like these 49 things we learned in school that are now completely useless. Cursive, the egg drop, potato batteries—yeah, we were suckers. And Chicago Public School teachers want how much to teach this garbage?

Speaking of things that are obsolete, The Huffington Post provides 11 things to do with old iPhones after Apple debuts its newest model.

Back to education for a moment: The latest QS World University Rankings were released Tuesday. Taking top honors was the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), followed by Cambridge and Harvard.

Assuming students from those schools have their pick of jobs after graduation, chances are that company culture will play a huge role in where they ultimately end up. A recent Deloitte report titled “Culture in the Workplace” shows “a correlation between employees who say their organization has a clearly articulated and lived culture and those that say they are ‘happy at work’ and feel ‘valued by [their] company.’”

No matter the company culture, Chris Brown might have a hard time finding a regular 9-to-5 job with a neck tattoo like the one he just got that’s 100 percent NOT of ex-girlfriend Rihanna. Still, the Internet will be the Internet. Case in point: HappyPlace’s eight favorite parodies of the singer’s “appallingly inappropriate” new ink.
