You know that card in the Monopoly board game that reads, “Bank error in your favor, collect $25”? Sometimes stuff like that happens in real life.
How about, “Airline error in your favor, collect several free plan tickets”? That actually happened, my friends, when United accidentally offered free fares on its website last week.
The company has decided to honor those tickets, and took to its Facebook page to address the problem
We’ve reviewed the error that occurred yesterday and decided that, based on these specific circumstances, we will honor the tickets.
Details are sparse about how many people received tickets for the price of a security fee, but one can imagine that the positive PR the company is getting from honoring the tickets is helping to mitigate its losses.
The response on Facebook is not just positive. It’s elated.
One Facebook commenter replied to the message with, “My loyalty to United has deepened.” Another joked, “Please notify me when the next error happens. Thanks.”
