On Monday, Florida Gators basketball team lost to Connecticut on a dramatic game-ending buzzer beater. But the real heartbreaker came the night before, when dozens of people were booted off a Delta flight from Gainesville to Atlanta to make room for the No. 15 team in the nation.
The team’s plane was grounded due to mechanical issues, so they bumped everyone from another plane and turned it into a charter flight for the Gators.
Among the litany of troubles Delta caused was a student who had to end up driving to Atlanta to make a required event and another who had to miss a funeral.
Perhaps more ridiculous was Delta’s terrible explanation. A representative had almost nothing intelligible to say to the Gainesville Sun
, explaining that the change was “due to operational need and aircraft routing requirements as a result of the busy travel holiday.”
Worse still, Delta apparently lied to passengers, telling them that their flight was cancelled due to mechanical difficulty. However, some “noticed the Gators basketball team boarding the plane meant for them out the window.”

As the story has spread, social media users have taken to bashing the airline.
“Just wanted to let you know when shopping for my next ticket Delta will not even be a option,” wrote one Facebook commenter with a link to the story.
