Republicans are loath to buy generic products: study

By Kevin Allen | Posted: February 15, 2013
Your political affiliation doesn’t just speak to your voting habits, it’s also an indicator of your purchasing habits.

Research published in Psychological Science reveals that conservatives are less likely to buy generic products, based on behaviors in counties that voted along Republican party lines.

The Association for Psychological Science explains further:
“Similarly, uptake of newly launched products was systematically lower in more conservative counties. These data suggest that conservative ideology may be associated with reliance on established national brands.”
The study’s authors claim it’s the first of its kind to provide evidence of a relationship between political affiliation and buying behavior.
