European low-cost airline launches a blog—and tells a lie

By Jody Koehler | Posted: March 4, 2011
EasyJet, a low-cost airline in Europe, has launched a blog to boost its online presence—and, in doing so, kicked up some controversy with an over-the-top claim.

Last week, the airline said it had launched the U.K.’s first airline blog. Not true. Easyjet apparently forgot that British Airlines and Virgin Atlantic maintain blogs.

In a post for Tnooz.com—a news site that covers the travel, tourism, and hospitality industries—Kevin May writes:

“The problem with public relations … claiming super-amazing ‘firsts’ is that they are invariably untrue. Or just puff to get journalists to write a story.”

Are you guilty of such puffery?
