A recent survey of 72 journalists in the U.K. found that the press release is the most preferred method for receiving news about a company.
Company websites was No. 2. Social channels—such as the company blog, Wikipedia, Twitter feed, etc.—also populated the list.

The study by PR agency
Text 100 U.K., which was conducted in March, included journalists from the business, consumer, technology and business-to-business media organizations.
“While traditional communications channels such as press releases remain important brands are missing out by not embracing a balanced approach across all social channels,” Dan Baxter, Text 100 U.K managing director, said in a
press release.
