TurboTax makers apologize for software changes

Customers were surprised to see functions previously available in the Deluxe edition of the tax preparation software removed from this year’s edition.

Tax season is unpleasant enough—customers don’t need tax preparation companies making it worse with their sneaky fees and unnecessary charges.

Perhaps that’s part of the reason consumers were so angry with TurboTax this year. Here’s what happened, via Chicago Tribune:

Intuit emailed several million TurboTax Deluxe customers on Friday who bought a CD or downloaded the product last year, a spokeswoman said. Those customers would be eligible for a $25 rebate if they need to upgrade to TurboTax Premier or TurboTax Home & Business to file small business, capital gains or rental property information.
