Instagram beats Twitter for mobile engagement

By Kevin Allen | Posted: October 1, 2012
Instagram is one of those social platforms that you either use and love, or else you don’t use and resent those who do. Whatever your opinion of Instagram, it gets eyes.

In fact, the photo editing/sharing mobile app tops Twitter in mobile engagement, according to a comScore report. Instagram sees an average of 7.3 million daily active users compared with Twitter’s 6.9 million.

The report also found that the average Instagram user spent a whopping 257 minutes accessing the site in August, compared with 170 minutes for Twitter.

In short, Twitter has more users, but Instagrammers access the app more often and spend more time on it per visit.

For more on the study, visit The Wall Street Journal’s Digits blog.

A few months ago, we posted a guide for brands on Instagram, much of which holds true. And with data points like these, it’s an even better time for brands that aren’t using the platform to climb aboard.
