Iron evicted from Monopoly game board

By Alan Pearcy | Posted: February 7, 2013
I hope there aren’t any wrinkles in Monopoly’s plan to evict a token from the board game.

If so, it’s too late. Voters have already spoken and the iron is out.

As PR Daily reported in January, the Hasbro game launched a worldwide vote giving fans the option of choosing to save one of its iconic game pieces: the Scottie dog, racecar, top hat, iron, shoe, thimble, battleship, or wheelbarrow. The company said one of them would be replaced by a new token that participants also voted on.

Contenders for that piece included a diamond ring, helicopter, cat, robot and a guitar.

On Wednesday, one day after voting concluded, the Associated Press reported that the cat had been selected to set up residence on the board game’s famous Boardwalk. The new token received 31 percent of the vote, with fans from more than 120 countries casting their ballots.

Curiously, the Scottie dog was the most popular among the classic pieces, receiving 29 percent of the vote to be saved.

Play nice, you two.
