Rick Santorum’s out.
On Tuesday afternoon, the GOP presidential candidate told reporters that he is suspending his campaign for the Republican nomination.
“We made a decision over the weekend that while this presidential race for us is over for me, and we will suspend our campaign effective today, we are not done fighting,”
he said at a press conference.
Santorum returned to the campaign trail this week after spending several days at the hospital with his daughter, who suffers from a rare chromosomal disorder.
The decision all but guarantees that Mitt Romney will be the Republican presidential candidate to square off against President Obama in the general election.
Naturally, Twitter users reacted to the announcement, pushing several topics related to Santorum onto the list of trending topics on Tuesday, including
#sweatervest, for which he’s known to wear.
“The election this fall will—sadly—not feature a
#sweatervest,” said one of the many tweets on the topic.
Although we caution against hijacking hashtags for marketing purposes, this might be a good time for a fashion brand to join the mix.
In the meantime,
The Huffington Post compiled a
