Utah NBC affiliate refuses to air network’s ‘The New Normal’

Fishing from horseback. Not drinking milk. Marrying your cousin before age 50. These activities are illegal in the state of Utah. Something that’s frowned upon in Utah’s capitol (though not illegal): “The New Normal,” a TV show that depicts a gay couple trying to start a family. KLC-TV, the NBC affiliate in Salt Lake City, is refusing to air the new sitcom because, as station CEO Jeff Simpson put it, “For our brand, this program simply feels inappropriate on several dimensions, especially during family viewing time.” The “pro-family” organization One Million Moms also weighed in on the show, claiming it perpetuates “the moral decay in public airwaves.”
