Snapchat announces account verification feature

Dubbed ‘Official Stories,’ the tool is now available to a select group of celebrities and public figures on the messaging app.

The company is now offering an “official” designation for some stars that use the service.

The feature is called “Official Stories,” and Snapchat made its announcement of the service official on its blog:

Official Stories help Snapchatters more easily discover and identify interesting Stories.

If a Snapchatter has an Official Story, their name will appear under an Official Stories header when you search for them. Also, an emoji will appear next to their name so you know they’re the real deal!

At this time, Official Stories are being rolled out to a small group of Snapchatters. Over time, Official Stories may become more widely available.

“A small group of Snapchatters,” eh? What about us lonely brand managers trying to distinguish ourselves from all those upstart copycats? When will we get our day to be called “official”?

No word on that yet. Marketing Land shared what it found on Snapchat:
